Urban Water and Sanitation Programme, Eastern Province

Description

The project included the maintenance, modernisation and expansion of the existing water supply systems (and, to a lesser extent, sanitation) in all of Eastern Province’s district capitals and its provincial capital. The period under evaluation, phase II, involved measures in Nyimba, Chadiza and Chipata. Only emergency measures were planned for Chipata during the appraisal, in part because infrastructure had been financed in the city during an earlier project. The operating agency, the ESWC, was founded on the advice of Financial Cooperation (FC) during phase I.
