General overhaul of freight wagons belonging to the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC)

Description

The programme covered the general overhaul of 562 freight wagons belonging to the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) in two phases. During the first phase starting from May 2002 until June 2003, 197 freight wagons were overhauled. The implementation of the second phase was linked to the privatisation of the railways in Uganda. Following the privatisation (concession for operation and maintenance), a further 365 wagons were overhauled in the second phase between March 2012 and October 2014. The general overhauls were performed by Nalukolongo railway workshop in Kampala. The programme tied into the previous FC commitment in the Ugandan rail-based freight transport sector (repair, general overhaul and maintenance of train units as well as development of workshop capacities).
