Between 2006 and 2014 the FC project “Poverty Alleviation Xinjiang” was implemented in the Kashgarregion of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in the extreme northwest of China. With planned overall financing of EUR 13.4 million, the aim was to implement measures to increase the agricultural productivity of the target group and to use scarce water resources more efficiently. Three phases were originally planned for the FC project. Due to considerable operating problems, a “consolidation phase” was carried out after the second phase instead of the third phase to ensure the functionality of the irrigation systems and to create conditions for sustainable operation.
