Safeguarding energy transmission in the South Caucasus

Description

As part of the FC measure, a fundamental rehabilitation of the 220kV Gyumri 2 substation was carried out to eliminate a major weakness in the Armenian 220kV transmission network. The facility located in the north-west of the country was built in 1972, severely damaged by an earthquake in 1988, and restored only in a makeshift manner in 1992, which meant its safe and reliable operation was no longer guaranteed.
