The regional projects contributed to reducing the HIV infection rate, the transmission of other sexually transmitted diseases and the number of unwanted pregnancies in the CEMAC region through education and marketing measures as well as the improved availability of high-quality condoms as part of a social marketing strategy, thus contributing to improving sexual and reproductive health and rights. Communication measures that were carefully adapted to the socio-cultural environment encouraged preventive behaviour and knowledge about the risks of infection, infection channels and prevention options and helped to reduce stigmatisation and discrimination against people affected by HIV and AIDS. The scope of the regional project was expanded in Phase II from three to four of the six CEMAC countries: Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic (CAR) and Congo. Phases III and IV also focused on young people (15-24 years) with the aim of increasing the efficiency of the measures.
