Biodiversity – an underestimated economic factor for Germany
The previous record for the annual loss of species-rich tropical rainforest was reached in 2024: 6.7 million hectares – almost the same area as Ireland. But how much is nature really worth – and what happens if we lose it? More than half of our economy depends on healthy ecosystems and their services. The loss of biodiversity and natural resources therefore threatens prosperity, supply and jobs worldwide. While global solutions for climate and nature conservation are being discussed at the current UN Climate Change Conference in Brazil, new rules and innovative financing ideas show how companies can make biodiversity an economic factor.
