In collaboration with the Goethe University of Frankfurt and other partners - "Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit"  (GIZ) GmbH, the Society for International Development (SID), the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Africa (Zentrum für Interdisziplinäre Afrikaforschung - ZIAF) - KfW Entwicklungsbank hosts a series of lectures. Within changing headings, academics and practitioners present their perspectives on developmental problems, opportunities and solutions. The theme for the 2010/2011 winter semester series was "Africa on the Move".

This is a topic that stirs up strong opinions. The continent has been viewed in an increasingly positive light, at least since the soccer world cup held in South Africa 2010. However, in terms of poverty and human development, some countries remain in a very poor state. "Can Africa Develop?" was the provocative question posed by Professor Patrick Chabal of King's College London when he opened the 2010/2011 winter semester lecture series in October.
