Principal Objectives
At the Interface between Research and Practice
We offer different formats to support network and cooperation between research and practice. Source: Fotolia
KfW Entwicklungsbank wants to encourage researchers in the development field to carry out applied research. The testing of new formats for cooperation between research and practice which bring together academic knowledge and developmental experience is of particular interest to us. Occasionally, we also award research contracts ourselves, covering issues of direct relevance to our developmental practices. We participate actively on research institute committees, encouraging the alignment of research strategies and projects toward issues of practical relevance, and we support excellence in applied development research through the KfW Research Prize.
Disseminating Knowledge
In addition, we want to make it easier to rapidly integrate new scientific knowledge into developmental policy and practice. So we analyse academic publications, and discuss the relevance and implementation of new knowledge with academics in a variety of work contexts and discussion platforms. Relevant findings are systematically integrated into our work. Through our online publications we make our knowledge available outside KfW, to policy-makers, the expert community, and those in the general public with an interest in development.
We want to help expand the understanding of developmental inter-relationships. This knowledge is urgently needed by partner countries, developmental policy-makers and developmental institutions, so that the central challenges to development (e.g. the fight against poverty, climate change and peacekeeping) can be tackled with the greatest possible efficiency and determination. At KfW Entwicklungsbank we want to use this knowledge to help us ensure that the public funds used in Financial Cooperation achieve high-quality, long-term developmental impact.
